Johor Bahru - Where It Is?

Johor Bahru

Just over the causeway from Singapore, Johor Bahru is an important manufacturing and business hub for Malaysia and a major starting point for travel to the northern part of the country. The city is served by both Senai International Airport and, across the border, Singapore's Changi Airport, and is linked to its neighbors via several arterial roads and sea ports. Accommodation near Johor Bahru International Airport (Senai ) is available for those planning quick a stopover, however there is accommodation all over the city and hotels in Johor City Center are the most convenient for shopping.

Many Singaporeans come to Johor Bahru to find a bargain. As an important manufacturing hub for the region it can offer goods much cheaper than can neighboring Singapore and there are several large malls in Johor Bahru and its surrounding suburbs that cater to travel shoppers.

AEON Tebrau City is one major mall, located in Tebrau, a short drive from the city center. Featuring several large chains and a cinema complex, it's a popular destination even for locals. Holiday Plaza in Johor City Center, close to the Causeway, is another popular shopping mall, offering discounted prices on electronics. For hand-made goods, travelers should visit the Johor Area Rehabilitation Organisation (JARO) Handicrafts Centre, which sells goods made by physically disabled Malaysian citizens.

One of the top tourist destinations in the city has to be Sultan Abu Bakar Royal Palace Museum. This 19th-century former palace is set in perfectly manicured gardens and now functions as a museum. While still used for some state functions the museum is open every day and showcases the royal silverware and photos of Johor's royal family.
